ABOUT US

Marty is currently the Chief Executive Officer for Net Zero Builders. He oversees the operation of the company and designs most of the residential projects that we build.
Before starting up Net Zero Builders, Marty was the Program Director for the Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE), which provides energy efficiency programs, access to efficiency information, financing and a qualified workforce for residential and commercial customers throughout Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley.
One of Marty’s primary responsibilities for CORE is managing their grants program. This program has helped business owners with improving their energy efficiency and implementing their retrofit projects. Through the non-profit organization, Marty has approved over 160 energy efficiency grants since 2016, totaling nearly $3 million and representing nearly $1.7 million in annual energy savings. 
He has been a general contractor in the Roaring Fork Valley since 2001, as the co-owner of a design-build firm specializing in sustainably-built custom homes. He currently maintains certifications with both the Building Performance Institute (BPI BA) and Residential Energy Services Network (HERS). He also maintains a Certified Energy Manager credential through the Association of Energy Engineers.
Marty’s home is in Carbondale, where he has lived with his wife on and off since 1999. He has worked for several architects, volunteered for many years on the Carbondale Mountain Fair board, Red Hill Council and Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers. Some of Marty’s other interests include mountain biking, climbing, skiing, and raising his two wonderful boys Tyler and Potter, with a little help from his wife, Trina Ortega. Marty holds a Master of Architecture degree from CU Denver, and a Technical Journalism degree from CSU.
